The Maryland State STEM Standards of Practice are process standards that guide instruction and define the behaviors of a STEM proficient student. The purpose for the Maryland State STEM Standards of Practice, Frameworks, and Instructional Guides is to lay a foundation of STEM education for all students. These documents provide teachers and students a consistent approach to implementing STEM education and will provide guidance for teachers as they develop STEM centric units or lessons that focus on answering complex questions, investigating global issues, and developing solutions for challenges and real world problems.

Vision:
Every student in WCPS will participate in STEM as an integrated component of their K-16 educational experience and will have opportunities to select more in-depth and targeted involvement through an expanding K-16 continuum of STEM choices inclusive of magnets, academies and whole school programs.
Mission:
The STEM initiative will provide enhanced and enriched programs for all students, including STEM magnet programs. Students will master rigorous curriculum and content standards in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics through integrated, problem-based, inquiry activities that foster critical thinking and provide authentic learning experiences. Data collected through local and state assessments, as well as graduation information and student work, will provide measurement of student performance and achievement.
